Confession Time….let’s talk glitter, shall we? How could anyone not love glitter mugs (or anything glitter for that matter)? I love all of the ones I have made for myself! There is nothing better than getting up in the morning and relaxing while watching I LOVE LUCY re-runs and drinking coffee out of my glitter mug. Don’t be jealous….you want a glitter coffee mug too?
Relax!!!
I’m about to teach you how to make one now. Let’s get started. First thing……
SUPPLY LIST
-Coffee mug (any color or shape)
-Painter’s Tape
-Small paintbrush (I like these.)
-Mod Podge (I use this kind.)
-Fine glitter (your color of choice)
-Triple thick for sealing
-Rubbing alcohol and a paper towel
Now let’s get to making!
- Using your rubbing alcohol and a paper towel, clean your mug.
- Apply painter’s tape to the mug to tape off the area where you want your glitter to be.
- Brush a thin coat of Mod Podge on the mug where you want your glitter to be.
- Drizzle the glitter onto the Mod Podge area completely. The glitter will not be thick and you will not like the look at this stage….DON’T WORRY! It will look great when we are done!
- Place the glitter mug upside down in an area to dry.
- Leave alone to dry for at least 45 minutes. DON’T TOUCH IT. I know it is tempting, but don’t touch!
- Repeat steps 3-5.
- Leave alone to dry for another 1-5 hours.
- If you are using a light color of glitter, repeat steps 3-5 again. If you are happy with the glitter coverage you have now, move onto the next step.
- Remove tape slowly and gently.
- Seal with triple thick being careful to get all the glitter but staying off the mug.
- Leave to dry….the longer the better! I like to leave mine to rest 1-2 days before using.
- Wash the cup and enjoy! Hand wash only!
*Optional: For a special touch, add a decal. I have a lot of designs here:
