Confession Time!! Who doesn’t love Starbucks and personalized items? Why not put them together…right?
RIGHT!
That is exactly what we are going to do now in this tutorial. First, we personalize and then coffee. Let’s get started. First thing……
SUPPLY LIST
-Starbucks Cup (in Starbucks shops starting around $2)
-Silhouette Machine (some other vinyl cutters also work)
-Permanent Adhesive Vinyl (your color of choice)
-Transfer Tape (I like low-tack for this project.)
-Silhouette pick up tool or tweezers
-Squeegee or old credit card, etc.
-Rubbing Alcohol and a paper towel
*If you already know how to make the decal and just need help with the application, skip to step 14.
Now let’s get to making!
- Download and open the Starbucks file in your silhouette software.
- Edit the name area (optional: edit the drink type – coffee, tea, drink, etc.)
- Be sure your grid is on so you can properly center the name.
- Select the name circle and the outer circle together and open the Align window. Click center.
- While you still have both the name circle and the outer circle selected, group together.
- Arrange your decal design on the mat where you need it to be for cutting
- Place vinyl on your cut mat and load your mat into the machine by pressing “Load Mat”.
- Edit your cut settings (this will vary depending on many factors: how old the blade is, how old your mat is, etc. Trial and error is best to find your perfect settings.)
- Click cut!
- Unload and use your tweezers to weed the unwanted vinyl from your design.
- Apply the transfer tape.
- Rub down the transfer tape very well using your squeegee, old credit card, etc.
- Clean the surface of your cup using rubbing alcohol and a paper towel.
- Turn the decal over and remove the backing. If the decal is still attached to the backing and lifting away from the transfer tape, gently press the decal back down and repeat step 12.
- Cut the backing in 1/2 and apply the backing back to the decal leaving a small gap of vinyl exposed. This is the step that will help us align the decal correctly later.
- Once your cup is completely dry from step 12, align the decal where you want it on the cup. Do not press down too hard in the middle until the decal is where you want it to stay. The good news about only exposing a small part of the decal is if you misplace it and haven’t pressed hard, you can usually lift it back up and try again.
- Once positioned correctly, slowly remove the backing from one side and rub down the decal from the inside to the outside. Then do the next side. By doing one side of the decal at a time, you have eliminated the case of bubbles and stretching in your decal.
- Rub the whole decal down extremely hard.
- Gently remove the transfer tape. If you see your deal lifting away from the cup, place the transfer tape back down and repeat step 18.
- All Done! Now it’s time to drink some coffee!
